Are you making plans to travel abroad to Malaysia? If so, you may be keeping a close eye on your budget in the days and weeks before your journey. You may also be looking at ways you can cut the cost of your trip. There are a few different ways you can go on holiday without making it difficult to pay your bills. If you’re getting ready for a trip and are worried about your finances, here are a few ways you can save money before and during your travels.
Start by Saving
If you have a specific time in mind for your holiday, you can start by slowly saving up over the coming year. You don’t have to put back a large amount of money, but if you can even set aside a little bit every month, it will add up. If you can’t save enough to cover your travel or lodging, consider the money you’re setting aside to be your food or shopping budget. If you’re tempted to make a large purchase such as new television or want to buy new clothing, consider how that will impact your travel plans.
Consider Your Airfare
If you’re flying to Malaysia, make sure you compare the airfare for different companies. A direct flight on British Airways may be less expensive than one on Malaysia Airlines. It may also actually be more affordable to look at flying through other airlines, even if it means flying from the UK to another country and then on to Malaysia.
Also, look at the day you’re planning to fly on. During the busiest times, the prices are often more expensive. A lot of people fly on Friday, so prices that day are often higher. On the other hand, Tuesday, Wednesday, and even Saturday tend to see fewer people booking flights. Airlines often drop the price to encourage people to fly on these days.
Look for Budget Lodging
While staying at the most luxurious place may be tempting, remember that you’re often paying a little extra just for the name on the side of the building. There are plenty of hotels that have rooms that are just as nice but may be off the beaten path. If you book a budget hotel room in Downtown Penang that’s just out of the main tourist area, you can save a lot of money and still be close enough to everything available in the downtown area. The rooms are going to be just as nice as well.
Consider Your Meals
You may be able to save money by eating breakfast at your hotel if breakfast coupons are available. This can also save you time since you don’t have to go anywhere to eat. Depending on what your activities are, remember that food costs in areas that get a lot of tourists are likely to be higher. If you want to save money, eat at locally owned family restaurants instead of big name chains, especially those that are out of the tourist areas.
